Oh How I Wish She Could Talk Nov 07

So my baby turned 1. With my first, this was the turning point. She suddenly lost all the remaining annoying infant habits and started to grow up.

The second is still working her way out of the newborn stage. She’s still up at LEAST once per night, altho now we just do a diaper check and quick snuggle and tuck her back in. Somewhere.

She can’t seem to sleep in her bed for more than a few hours. Her best sleep happens in her infant car seat in the office.

Altho she can appropriately use a good half dozen words and another half dozen gestures, once she’s upset, she gives up on using them and just screams until we both need time out.

Despite squeaking out the minimum sleep for her age, any time she ends up in “time out,” she will fall asleep after about 10 minutes.

My darling Emma? Is it your mattress? Your sheet? Your clothes?

The temperature? The amount of light? The amount of white noise?

Do you need more activity during the day? Do you need more food?

Oh, how I wish you could talk and answer these questions… Our days would be so much smoother…

Getting Back to Blogging? Oct 07

There are so many unfinished posts staring at me, but our whole family has been nothing but sick and swamped with activities since the school year started. However, I REALLY want to write these posts, even if they’ll be quite late. So, in an attempt to get back to blogging, here’s a little bit of 5QF fun!

1. What album/cd/download are you embarrassed to admit you have?
It’s not exactly a album/cd/download, but we’ve pre-ordered Just Dance 4 (affiliate link)
both for the songs and because my older daughter will dance the day away to any of the games… And we own all 4.

2. What’s the one thing your spouse does better than you?
Housekeeping. Everything is cleaner when he does it, but he doesn’t have time to do it, so we get by with my attempts.

3. When do you start buying Halloween Candy?
As soon as large bags go BOGO in the stores. We get a ridiculous amount of kids through our neighborhood, and we have to put together treat bags for my older daughter’s preschool class, so I spend a little every week to make sure we have enough.

4. Family closets – Yay or nay?
I’m confused… Family closet? Like, all 4 of us in one closet? Because it wouldn’t fit. We’d have to buy a ridiculous organizer and donate or throw away half of what we all own to make that happen, and since it’s not necessary, why should we? I guess that makes my answer “nay”.

5. Which home/cleaning chore do you hate the most? Why?
Scrubbing floors. It’s hard on the knees and no matter how much sweeping or vacuuming you do, there is ALWAYS gross stuff still on the floor. Disgusting. We should all wear special cleaning shoes or socks, especially on the tile and clean as we go. I should get on that patent…

I have to giggle as I’m reading other peoples’ responses, because they’re posting my real answer – ALL of them! However, the question implies one, so I picked one. ๐Ÿ™‚

There it is, this week’s 5QF answers, and my attempt at getting back to blogging. There are SO MANY THINGS I want to talk about…

A VERY Belated Happy Birthday to ME! Jul 12

So, I hit a milestone birthday back on May 2 (Life gets in the way a lot with 2 kids underfoot! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), and as part of the celebration, I decided to come up with 30 Things That I Want To Do In My 30s. It took a surprisingly long time to create this list, and it still doesn’t have 30 things on it. I’ve been very lucky to have already had some cool adventures. ๐Ÿ˜‰

30 Things to do in your 30s
1. Take a cruise. Iโ€™ve done this several times already, but think I should go on several more in my lifetime. ๐Ÿ˜‰
2. Visit Europe, specifically London and Paris, possibly Rome and Venice. (I get to go to Prague this summer!)
3. Do some serious hiking and camping. If anyone already does this and has advice on how to do this as a female, please, send me an email.
4. Eliminate the chemicals from my diet. I donโ€™t need to consume hydrolyzed or hydrogenized anything and neither do my children. It will take me several years to gather the knowledge and skills to do this.
5. Buy a boat. (Was supposed to be our 30th birthday present. Instead, we bought a popup camper ;))
6. Donate to worthwhile charities and causes, such as cancer research, autism, pre-natal and pediatric care, and possibly a scholarship to help worthwhile individuals get the education they need to make something of themselves. This probably can’t happen until my husband’s student loans are paid off, but hopefully before the end of the decade.
7. Hire a maid to take care of the cleaning, so I can focus on cooking and spending time with the family. I want to be the mom that goes on all the field trips.
8. Buy a house that has a guest bedroom, and maybe even mother/mother-in-law houses.
9. See the national landmarks west of the Mississippi River. Iโ€™ve never been west of the Mississippi River, and Iโ€™d really like to see the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and Forks, Washington.
10. Constantly add to my personal cookbook to guarantee something to pass on that documents family recipes.
11. Take a road trip up the eastern seaboard and make sure to visit all the relatives along the way!
12. See the Olympics in person. (I almost got to do that this summer. So close!)
13. Catch up my daughters’ scrapbooks and baby books to their milestones
14. Throw a blow-out 30th birthday party (long story as to why this DIDN’T happen, but we still had an awesome time)
15. Times Square on New Yearโ€™s Eve
16. Grow a vegetable garden. I try every year and have yet to really succeed. Everything burns up in the oppressive summer heat.
17. See a Broadway show on Broadway

What would you add to your list? I’d love to actually get to 30 things!

The Whirlwind Apr 12

Beginning on April 2, my life just became ridiculously busy.

I registered both girls for swim lessons. Beginner for DD1, SafeStart for DD2. DD1 is easy, just twice a week for 4 weeks. DD2 goes EVERY WEEKDAY for 6 weeks, just 10 minutes a day. Ridiculousness! However, I’ve seen how well graduates of the program can swim, and since it’s already summer here in FL, this is absolutely necessary for her health and safety. So I’ll deal with the insane schedule and exorbitant cost.

To fill the time until (and, later, after) lessons start, I signed up DD1 for Tumble Time and Music and Movement at the YMCA twice per week. And she still goes to school 2 mornings per week. And there was Easter, a birthday party, I volunteered to do the end of year gifts for the teachers, mine and my husband’s birthdays to prepare for, and Muffins with Mom within the next month. Then there are 2 end of year parties, week long parent/child camp at Sea World, and a weekend at the beach. Somewhere in there I’m hoping to do a few days at Disney, and if we do buy a popup camper, I want to take the whole family on a few camping adventures.

Prior to April 2, I was still plugging along adjusting to being the mom of 2. We’d finally mastered Publix, Target, and both story times. And by mastered, I mean I either shop every other day because there isn’t enough shopping cart space for more groceries than that with both kids, or I pawn off at least one child on my now semi-retired mother to watch for some quasi-peaceful shopping, or wait until DD1 is in school and it’s just DD2 and me. It’s become normal, no matter which way you look at it, and it’s getting comfortable. Which is probably why I mixed up the schedule so mightily by adding in a half dozen activities and vacations.

This is what I’ve been up to and will be up to. Hopefully there will also be more time for the blog, but I won’t commit to it. I want blogging to feel natural, not like a job or another requirement. I want to write because I have something to say, and hopefully there are still readers out there who will read and comment and help me work through whatever it going on. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s Been A Long, Long Time… Feb 02

October 13th was my last post, and that was in the days before baby girl #2 arrived.

Emma Leigh was born on October 19th at 1:01pm weighing 8lbs 1oz and 19 3/4 inches long. While we’re awaiting her official stats at her 4 month well visit this week, she is already 15+lbs!

Maybe one day I’ll write a full comparison, but I want to say that this c-section was SO. MUCH. EASIER. than my first. The first time I could barely walk around the hospital no matter how much I tried, and spent weeks sleeping on the couch because it was physically impossible to climb into bed. This time, after the inital difficulty of learning how to get out of bed, walking was a breeze, and I spent most of my hospital time walking because it was more comfortable than sitting or laying down.

Once I got home, I was able to sit anywhere I wanted, thanks to a backrest pillow (I think that’s what they’re called?), and with the help of my daughter’s bathroom stool, could even climb into bed! That was REALLY nice in the afternoon when someone else was around to watch the kids and I could nap in peace and quiet, although I still spent several weeks sleeping on the couch to be closer to the babe. Who is STILL sleeping in a pack-n-play in the living room because she only just a couple weeks ago got on a schedule that would allow her to sleep in her crib in the bedroom with her big sister.

It’s been a very busy first few months which included, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and big sister’s 3rd birthday. Hopefully I’ll be able to update the blog world on those events with some help from Wordless Wednesday. As much as I usually dislike this time of year because it’s so boring, I’m actually relieved to be “bored” so I can really adjust to my role as mom of 2. The babe is on a schedule, my big girl is a great helper, and I set up a list of chores for myself so it (hopefully) doesn’t seem as if everything suddenly has to be done at once (like the laundry).

Right now, I’m REALLY looking forward to our first camping trip the end of February. The girls will be spending the weekend with their grandmothers and the husband and I will be in the woods with friends. Nothing but eating, sleeping, canoeing and hiking! I can’t wait to have 52 hours kid-free! Love those munchkins, but mama needs the personal time to be all that I can be. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think that’s a long enough update, hopefully be posting again soon!

I KNOW It’s Only July! Jul 27

BUT… Everything I think about is already fall oriented, and fall doesn’t unofficially start until August 22nd (when school starts) and not officially until September 23rd!

There are 3 reasons that I can think of for my strange thought pattern, and the first is that I LOVE fall baking and colors. There are more apple pies and dipped apples and even dips for apples (such as Caramel and Pumpkin) and I can’t forget our family and friends favorite fall crack, Sparkling Candy Corn Cookies. Clothing and decorations come in fantastic colors like golden yellow, orange, rust, copper, and brown. And the final reason? DD2 will arrive just before Halloween, the official start to my happy season, which ends after DD1’s birthday in January.

Because of my love for the season, and to keep DD1 from “missing out” while I take care of DD2, I’m trying to get everything Halloween and partially Thanksgiving oriented taken care of NOW. I don’t want to have to try and think through the newborn fog that will cloud my mind, I want everything as much in order as I can possibly make it. It will make life easier on all of us. Also, the more I can get completed now, the more me activities I can squeeze in while DD1 is in school. I doubt I’ll have much time for me activities once DD2 arrives, and I’m ok with that. It’s part of the mommy territory. I just wish the fog wasn’t happening in the midst of my favorite season…

I Don’t Fit In Jun 29

Well, that’s how I feel anyway.

For the second time this summer, my daughter and I attended a pool party at one of her classmates house’s. For the millionth time in my life, I felt apart from the group and unable to find an appropriate place to input my thoughts into the conversation. That’s not to say I didn’t say anything, but I have a much easier time communicating one-on-one than in a group, and it’s kinda hard to do that when we’re all running around making sure the kids are safe.

It was also obvious today that while, physically, my daughter is the female version of my husband, she really does have my lack of social skills. She’s content to play by herself and let others do the same and just does not understand why the other kids cannot leave her and her favorite toy of the moment in peace. She, like me, enjoys being out with a group, but seems unable to really BELONG.

I have no idea how to help either of us, and it makes me sad.
